Willow Springs AMA Superbike National Canceled? My sources say that the AMA superbike event scheduled for April 30, 2000 is in very real danger of being canceled, if it is not already.
Willow Springs Raceway sent a FAX to the AMA last Friday stating that they did not have the resources to promote an AMA Superbike race in 2000 and hoped that the AMA could find someone to promote the race at Willow instead of Willow Springs Raceway.
Stephanie Huth, Willow's track manager and the promoter of the previous two Willow Superbike races, has not yet returned any of AMASuperbike.com calls requesting comment. AMA sources state that although Willow is/was listed on the 2000 AMA Superbike schedule, there was not yet a signed contract between them for 2000.
AMA head of Pro Racing Merrill Vanderslice confirmed this morning that they had received some correspondence from Huth in regards to the Willow date but that he hoped it could still be worked out so that the AMA race would happen at Willow next year. "We'd like to keep the race and the date; we're looking at some alternatives and possibilities and hope a solution can be reached," he said.
Rumors have it that Willow is now giving the AMA date to PACE for their fledgling 2000 roadrace series, but PACE sources said yesterday that they are trying to get a date at Willow, but not the AMA date.
Willow Springs is the second race on the 2000 AMA schedule and the track itself is used by most of the west-coast teams as a test facility.
