Criville lets the saw-bones add structural integrity to his wrist

Recently crowned 500 champ Alex Criville has gone under the knife to fix the left wrist he cracked when he crashed during qualifying for the Australian GP.

Criville had aggravated the injury during the following the world championship events, and his surgeon, Dr Villubrias, praised the Spaniard's bravery at those final races, where he wrapped up the crown. "The injury was originally a crack but now it's a fracture," said Villubrias. "If I were a normal traumatologist I would have put the wrist in plaster for six weeks when he broke it and he wouldn't have been world champion. His power of sacrifice is outstanding - he could only have born the pain with anesthetics, and riding the bike with the handlebars put at different levels must have made it difficult to him."

Criville had a six millimeter plate and two screws inserted around the break. -- amasuperbike.com
