Selling Dead Trees

Chevy Deal items

Ready to quit the rat race and do your own deal, run your own show, hire and fire people? Do you know how to read and maybe even like it? Do you hold a grudge against trees and want to make them pay for something awful they did to you as a child? Owning your own bookstore is something to consider, as you can get free books to read at your leisure, and kill trees by the millions. Hosking Books is for sale over on eBay and although I didn't know they existed until this morning, I've discovered they are pretty well established in the bike book trade. Sure, the first bid is a little high, but hey, that's the price of glory.

Mike Hale was rooting around at the Homestead NASCAR race a few weeks back, looking for a Winston Cup ride. Hale finished the season with the Roberts camp but it is unknown if he will ride there again next year and his name has not been mentioned much in factory circles here in the US of late. Hale's passions outside of bikes have always been fishing and NASCAR and he may take up one of those for next season if he doesn't get a ride.

Weird NASCAR thing: ever notice how strangely alike car racer Tony Stewart and bike racer and cylinder head mad-man Mike Golden look? Seperated at Birth.

Although rumor has it that the AMA/Chevy Trucks deal was worth 1.7million dollars (total package for Superbike, Motocross, Flat Track and MCD), and included a nice portion of semi-free television commercials on Speedvision, AMA sources say that the factual numbers are much lower than that. And don't include any television packages.
Chevy has instructed the AMA to keep details of the program close to their chest and they are not to even state publicly how long the program is supposed to run, other than "multi-year".

AMA Pro Racing CEO Scott Hollingsworth was asked by Paul Carruthers of Cycle News at the press conference what the Superbike and Motocross rider point funds might be with all this new Bowtie cash of unknown amounts coming in. Hollingsworth again deferred, saying they would release that info when the time comes.

Sources say the AMA will get a new fleet of Chevy cargo trucks to haul series stuff around the country.

This new sponsorship deal could have huge ramifications on the series both good and bad, as the dough will finally be there to step up and do some things right; and also there is much grumbling on the manufacturer side, from those who say they will not run any kind of Chevy decal on their bikes whatsoever, if that is required. Harley-Davidson is sponsored by Ford, Honda makes cars and trucks, as does Suzuki, and Yamaha has a close relationship with many car manufacturers. After dumping tens of millions of dollars into their own racing programs, and finding their own automotive alliances, one can see why the bike manus would maybe not see the humor in slapping a GM decal anywhere near their bikes.

Kenny Roberts the Legend was at AMA headquarters yesterday for a photo shoot. More details later.

Do you like double helpings of Superbike racing on the same weekend? Hope so.

More later. Maybe.
