Yamaha's Anthony Gobert was the fastest man at the first day of the 2001 Daytona tire test, although there was some confusion due to a scoring snafu. Gobert set the quickest time with a lap of 1:51.275.
Gobert says a year's experience on the Yamaha Superbike has improved his feel for the machine. "I'm so used to that bike and I enjoy riding it," Anthony says. "My R7 seems to be a lot better for me now. I'm more comfortable on the bike. Last year it rained a lot of the time we were here (at Daytona). It's really hard when you go to a new team because you have to learn all the new mechanics, but we're totally sorted right now."
His once-broken arm is pretty much healed from the Loudon crash. "It's not bothering me enough to hamper me. It wasn't slowing me at Virginia, just my fitness wasn't 100% to fight it out with Nicky over the last few laps. It's a shame I missed half a year on the Superbike because of my wrist or we'd be even further along than we already are."
Gobert certainly looks to be in shape and says he's been training hard in Australia. "For this stage of the year, I feel fitter than what I ever have."
While he's changed teams and machines over the years, the Go Show still has the same goal. "It's all about getting back in GPs for me. Whatever it takes."
