BJN Files: Colin Edwards II Images #1
images by brian. nelson

From longtime American photographer Brian Nelson vast files come these images of Colin Edwards II. The pre-2005 imags were shot on film.

Colin Edwards' first professional ride was on a Southwest Motorsports Yamaha TZ250 in 1992. His teammate was future Specalized bicycle engineer Chris D'Aluisio. 250-tuner Dave Harold oversaw the team with a bit of late season engine help from Kevin Cameron.

Edwards had a huge rivalry with Kenny Roberts Jnr at this point in his career. Mike Rockwell was Edwards' tuner/mechanic in 1992.

Later, Edwards rode Superbike for Yamaha. His Vance & Hines Yamaha Superbike rides in AMA landed him a WSBK ride with Yamaha. Afterward he came back and did Daytona several times for Yamaha. It was largely a European effort--note current Rossi crewchief Silvano Galbusera on the pit wall.

By 2005 Edwards was on the factory Yamaha team and finishing on the podium with Rossi and race winner Nick Hayden.

M1-power. Edwards leads Rossi out of turn 11 at Laguna.

Yamaha's retro paint scheme was a popular one. The Texas Tornado made it more so.

After his 2002 Laguna win, Edwards never enjoyed race win success in Northern California; but he did finish well and enjoy the track.
