1982 Kent Superbike Images
images by Rob Wieking

These images are from the '82 Kent, Washington Superbike race. They join our images from Laguna and Sears Point that year. This is the Vance and Hines Suzuki, ridden by Mike Spencer and being fettled by Byron Hines.

Mitsu Kaneda (Honda employee) talks with rider Roberto Pietri and mechanic Ray Plumb.

Kawasaki's display that season featured a giant inflatable penis. Oh, wait, that was the Stones tour in '82.

Ken Funkhouser (where did he go?) wrenches on Lawson's S1, Muzzy makes sure the bead is correct. Note brakes. Lawson said GP brakes didn't get as good as these until carbons came on the scene.

A look inside the Team Honda truck. 125 octane So-Cal race fuel (whoa!). Galvanized locker as a hugely heavy step. When plastic totes came on the scene these went away with few regrets.

Steve Wise's CB750-based 1000cc racer. Hand-cut rear slick for wet conditions, and tire-groover in the padded box.

Belt-driven Krober ignition under the AHM cover. Decision to make this was driven by the result of a Laguna race where Freddie Spencer smacked left crankcase cover on ground (but didn't crash). He switched from the NR during practice to the 1125 and the bikes, obviously were of differing width and that was the result. The cover cracked, causing an oil weep.
