Steve Wise on the CB750/900 Honda Superbike. Wise was one of the most versatile riders of the 1980s.

Klinzmann on the Racecrafters Kawasaki Superbike, tuned by Pierre des Roches. Sadly, the incredibly bright and sharp des Roches died years later in a military helicopter crash.

Five-time F1 champion Mike Baldwin on the Honda. Baldwin made his bones in racing Guzzis and TZs; he never won the Superbike title but was an F1 expert.

The CB750F Superbike—Honda spared no expense in order to try and win the Superbike title in 1980-82. All for naught: little Kawasaki won the 1981-83 titles with Lawson and Rainey. Honda didn't win the title until 1984.

Klinzmann yet another Kawasaki Superbike from the era.

Kawasaki-mounted Wayne Rainey won his first Superbike race in 1982 and the title in 1983. He was off to Europe in 1984.

Sears Point 1982 was bittersweet for racer Jon Woo. He finished on the podium but was DQ'd because his Moriwaki-equipped Superbike failed to make weight. Sadly, Woo, a northern-California rider, died during a Honda try-out at Laguna Seca in late 1982.
