1974 Imola 200: Hear the past come alive with a recently re-discovered recording from the archives of Chris Carter, the voice of the Daytona 200

In 1974 there were three big international roadraces: the Daytona 200, the Imola 200 and the Paul Ricard 200; they were part of the AGV helmets World Cup.

1974 was the year Giacamo Agostini won the Daytona 200 and Kenny Roberts went to Imola hell bent on beating Ago in his home country; this was Roberts' first ever trip to Europe. The Imola 200 attracted a wide variety of riding talent that year, including Roberts, Ago, Barry Sheene, Paul Smart, Gene Romero and even Miguel's dad, Yvon DuHamel.

Nobody remembers these races today, but they were amongst the most fierce contest in the world then. (Yes, this is the race that Sheene and Roberts almost drowned at, and in which the infamous "nun story" happened.)

Back in 1974, Chris Carter took his semi-portable reel-to-reel tape machine to Imola and later produced an album of the event, which was later sold throughout Europe and in portions of the US. And then it was forgotten about.

Carter's recording told the story of the race; you hear the sounds as those awesome TZ700s scream past at Imola, and includes mini-interviews with all the top riders, including Roberts and Sheene.

Chris Carter Productions and Hardscrabble Media now have reproduced this album on CD from the original recordings and will be offering it for sale through amasuperbike.com. You can own this newly re-discovered recording on CD for $12.00, plus shipping.
