Eric Bostrom managed to get the ZX6R down to a staggering record pace at the Daytona tire test, logging a 1:53 lap time that scared the pants off his competiton, but what about the Superbike?
"It was like a high 50 on race rubber. Not so impressive," said the youngest Bostrom brother. "We need to get her goin'."
"We struggled on the Superbike a little," said Bostrom?s crewchief Al Ludington. "We tried a bunch of stuff and made some headway, but we still need to get about a second out of the bike. If we put it in perspective and consider where we were last year here, at least the bike goes straight." Kawasaki struggled with a wobbling Superbike last year at the Dunlop test.
"Obviously the 600 rips, so we've got that half dialed now. We have to work on the Superbike some more, but we have a few tests before we get back here. We want to get some more information and start of the season like everyone else does, with the most points we can get. To us, that's 38!"
Doug Chandler was quick at the Daytona tests. Chandler turned a 1:50.1 on a qualifying tire, and was nearly as fast on race rubber. "We?re pretty close to the fastest guys, so I?m pretty happy," said Chandler. Doug stated he felt his team, lead by long-time Superbike wrench Gary Medley, had the bike very close to being ready for the 200 in March. After a grinding 2000 season, Chandler seems to be ready for better times in 01.
The ZX-7 may be an older Superbike, but it still gets a steady barrage of support from Japan. The team had a new swingarm and other assorted parts for the Daytona test, and with a proven support crew, the green meanie went faster than several "state of the art" Superbikes.
