1999 AMA SUPERBIKE TOUR SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED

WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- American Motorcyclist Association Pro Racing has announced the schedule for the 1999 Superbike Tour. The AMA Superbike Tour will visit 12 of the nation's finest race courses in a season stretching from March through October.

The Tour will return to its traditional season-opener, the Daytona 200, at Daytona International Speedway, March 3-7. The round at Phoenix International Raceway, which has been the site of the season-opener for the past two years, will move to the weekend of March 19-21.

Californians will have multiple opportunities to see the AMA Superbike Tour in April and early May. Willow Springs International Speedway, in Rosamond, Calif., will host the Tour April 16-18. Sears Point Raceway, in Sonoma, Calif., will follow April 23-25, and the action will continue at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, Calif., April 30-May 2.

Road Atlanta will once again host an AMA Superbike Series doubleheader on the weekend of June 4-6. The Tour will then head north, arriving at Road America, in Elkhart Lake, Wis., on June 11-13. New Hampshire International Speedway, in Loudon, N.H., will be the next stop, June 18-20.

The AMA 600 SuperSport Series will be on the program for the Federation Internationale Motocycliste (FIM) World Superbike Championship round at Laguna Seca July 9-11. Select AMA Superbike Series riders will also compete in the weekend's World Superbike races.

The AMA Superbike Tour will return to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, July 16-18. The Tour will then head to Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd, Minn., July 30-Aug. 1.

The Tour will head west to Pikes Peak International Raceway in Fountain, Colo., Aug. 27-29, then culminate at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Oct. 1-3.

The 1999 AMA Superbike Tour will bring six classes of racing -- AMA Superbike; 750 SuperSport; 600 SuperSport; 250cc Grand Prix; Formula Xtreme and Pro Thunder -- to all venues, except as detailed below.

AMA Superbike: 13 rounds (12 venues, doubleheader in Atlanta); 750 SuperSport: 12 rounds; 600 SuperSport: 13 rounds (12 Superbike Tour venues plus Laguna Seca for the World Superbike weekend); 250cc Grand Prix: 12 rounds; Pro Thunder: 12 rounds; Formula Xtreme: 11 rounds (not run at Daytona).
