Suzuki's Jamie Hacking had a strange 2001. He expected to be a 600 Supersport title challenger and had resigned his Superbike season as a learning year. In reality, he ran well on the Superbike -- including winning his first Superbike National -- but didn't do so great on the 600.
"My main goal this year is consistency," Jamie says. "Last year, I never rode different (suspension settings) each week and there were times where we ended up lost and confused." In 2002, Jerry Daggett will be Hacking's crewchief.
Hacking thinks Suzuki can right the ship and get the GSX-R600 to the top of the box on a consistent basis, though. "We had a new bike last year and it didn't quite turn out like they thought. I know that I can run up front in the 600 class. It's up to those guys to prepare me a bike that I can go out there and win a Championship."
Hacking likes the Daytona circuit. "I've always done well here. I got on the podium the first year. This place is hard and it's easy. It's easy to ride the track but to get the bike to hook up here is very hard."
Hacking feels Daytona would be a great place to kick off the season with a 600 Supersport win on the way to a Championship. "If not," he says, "I'll be really disappointed."
