One of the great urban legends of roadracing is that the Formula Xtreme bikes don't run at Daytona because they'd be faster than the Superbikes. After all, they make big power and use similar tires. At a WFO track like Daytona, they might just break the lap record, right?
In reality, a liter behemoth with its streetbike chassis can't touch a Superbike at DIS when the sticky tires come out and the riders crank it up. Shawn Higbee's best was a 1:53.2 on his GSX-R1000 and Mike Hale's best lap on the Erion 929 was 1:54.821, a full five seconds slower than Nicky Hayden.
