It’s no secret that Wayne Rainey has wanted the Daytona 200 to run with MotoAmerica but up to this point he has been unable to get the deal he needs with DIS in order to make it all happen.
Rainey, a few years ago, made a proposal to Daytona to run the 200 as a “Good Teeth vs Bad Teeth Cup, (okay, that’s what I called it) where the best of MotoA’ and British Superbike would line up at Daytona for the 200 as an old Brit vs USA cup race … but for whatever reason that proposal was met with little interest at DIS.
Currently the interested parties are discussing how MotoA’ could work at the Speedway next March. A Dunlop tire test is scheduled for later in the 2021 season and there’s any number of ways that test could be interpreted.
1000cc Superbikes at the Speedway? An entire haywagon of dialog could be applied to the question of the capacity of motorcycles that could race the ’22 200 but the reality is that Jim France is not crazy about 1000cc Superbikes at Daytona for safety reasons. Has his opinion changed on that subject? Good question.
