Recent Italian GP winner Jorge Lorenzo is set to join Repsol Honda in 2019. If the deal being formed now is signed, which insiders expect, Lorenzo will be Marc Marquez’s teammate on what is arguably the most successful team in MotoGP.
Lorenzo and Marquez have won all of the MotoGP championship in the last six years.
Most felt that even if this offer for Lorenzo to join HRC were valid that Marc Marquez would not allow Lorenzo in the factory Honda garage. As a dominant player in MotoGP many times an “A” rider has the option to pick or “strongly influence” who his teammate will be. For example, when Ben Spies joined the factory Yamaha team, Lorenzo, as per his contract with Yamaha, could have blocked the move. After Rossi, though, Lorenzo did not care who his teammate would be and just wanted someone who did not come with an entire three-ting circus as his entourage.
