Livio Suppo was Casey Stoner’s boss a couple of times in MotoGP. After the 2007 Ducati honeymoon period when Stoner won the title, the stories that Suppo reluctantly told friends about dealing with Stoner on a day-to-day basis were frankly sad and depressing from the aspect of an athlete who was among the very best in the sport but was at the same time was clearly so deeply unhappy.
Example: In 2012 after Stoner did his post-press conference blast THROUGH the fans that had gathered outside the Laguna Seca press tent to await the race winner and champion, say congrats and thanks, maybe ask–ASK–for an autograph (Stoner got on his scooter with his PR man, told him to pin it and together they screamed through the crowd, accelerating past fans including a lot of kids who were there).
I saw Stoner afterward sitting alone playing a video game in the Repsol team “shed”. I asked Suppo why in the world Stoner would behave that way. He replied, “I don’t know. And I don’t think he knows either. Maybe he wants them to be as unhappy as we are?!”.
Anyway, every time Stoner does an interview with an Australian it always seems to end up sounding more like a therapy session than a podcast. Here is the latest.
