Did Cal Crutchlow Just Step In It Big Time?

Okay, it’s only been two tests.

But the Ducati GP15 has made enormous leaps forward in two tests, leaving the Qatar two day test with rider Andrea Dovizioso on top. Faster than Marc Marquez, Lorenzo, Rossi and the rest. Would that fast time position had held if the test had not seen the third and final day cancelled by rain? Unknown. But it is known that Ducati didn’t even try the soft tire before the test ended, so, presumably, they were not lapping their fastest.

Progress by Ducati is a good thing for the MotoGP series. But if you’re Cal Crutchlow, when does he start to wonder what it is that I have done?

Crutchlow rode for the factory Ducati team in 2014. While Ducati confirmed Crutchlow for 2015 at World Ducati Weekend, the season-long schism between he and Ducati quickly ruptured and he then signed with LCR Honda for 2015.

Any satellite Honda ride–which is what Crutchlow has at LCR Honda–is a sought after position. The spec is top notch, the support is great and there are basically no questions when it comes to machinery.

But if Ducati builds on this pre-season achievement and has a 2007-level season, Cal Crutchlow might be left wondering what he left and why.
