In one of the most amazing comebacks in racing history, in June of 1998 then Superbike points leader Miguel DuHamel crashed his factory Honda RC45 in qualifying at Loudon and broke his leg. The injury was ghastly with bone sticking thru his flesh.
Many felt DuHamel’s career was over and that he would never race or win again.
Incredibly DuHamel came back to win the 1999 Daytona 200 (and 600 Supersport race) while still walking with a cane.
In the fall of 1998 DuHamel came to the Pike’s Peak round of the championship but did not race. I interviewed him about the Loudon incident and the aftermath.
