Reuters reports that Tech 3 MotoGP rider Jonas Folger has received a diagnosis regarding the condition that forced him out of the Japanese Grand Prix.
Folger and his manager, Rhys Edwards, alerted the team at the Motegi round that MotoGP rookie Folger was unable to get out of bed due to fatigue, and he was incapable of riding.
Tech 3 says that Folger has been diagnosed with Gilbert’s Syndrome, a genetic disorder which according to the Mayo Clinic normally has no symptoms beyond slight yellowing of the eyes and skin. Folger, who says he has been symptomatic of Gilbert’s Syndrome since 2011, is on a special diet designed to clean his liver of toxins.
Other respected on-line medical journals suggest any athlete who has Gilbert’s should avoid stress.
