The familiar Yamaha AMA/MotoAmerica Superbike team won’t be in MotoAmerica in 2020.
Yamaha plans to hand the effort off to Richard Stanboli’s Attack team which fielded JD Beach in 2019.
Attack will run a two rider effort, with series champion Cameron Beaubier on one bike and presumably Garrett Gerloff on the second, although Gerloff isn’t signed as yet.
Yamaha has been downgrading their MotoAmerica Superbike effort more and more each season. In a bellwether moment, long time Yamaha USA race boss Keith McCarty, who one would never accuse of being passionate about roadracing, was reportedly made a contractor by Yamaha before the start of the 2019 season. Several team members are retiring or finding other jobs.
Presumably any suggestion that Yamaha pushing their MotoAmerica effort onto a private team might be a downgrade would be met by (the always ultra-controlling) Yamaha with a reaction nothing short of the Wicked Witch of the West being doused with a bucket of water, so don’t.
