Gill Campbell & Laguna Seca Raceway Split

It seems as if former Laguna Seca CEO and current VP of Events at Laguna Seca Raceway, Gill Campbell, and the track have decided to go their separate ways.

Ed-dee! Ed-dee! Ed-dee! Oh, wait, that was in 1988.

It seems as if former Laguna Seca CEO and current VP of Events at Laguna Seca Raceway, Gill Campbell, and the track have decided to go their separate ways.

Campbell was instrumental in bringing MotoGP racing to the United States. She oversaw the track and event in this period with passion and diligence. She was the point person to find outside funding (Yamaha) for the track to undergo a massive re-design and update which would bring it up to FIM/MotoGP spec. Also, she was the person who found the outside funding (Yamaha, again) to re-fix the track a second time when it seems the FIM didn’t really consult with the right riders when they okayed the track originally for MotoGP racing.

Campbell believed in and continues to believe in motorcycle racing. For example, in the dark days of the DMG take-over of AMA Pro Racing, Campbell held a private dinner at her home whereby she hoped that the representatives of DMG and Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta would meet and try to forge a relationship of cooperation. As legend has it, Ezpeleta arrived alone and ready to talk. Instead DMG played the ‘No, you tell him to come over here and talk to us first’ card and honestly doomed the entire relationship until Wayne Rainey took over roadracing in the US with his MotoAmerica series.

Campbell’s personal email (mrygillc@gmail.com) appears to work. Friends can contact her there.
