Current MotoAmerica Superbike champion Toni Elias, along with others such as Suzuki IOM TT rider Mike Dunlop and former AMA Pro (DMG-era) rider Josh Waters will get the chance to ride the Suzuki MotoGP racer at the Sepang test next week.
For Elias, climbing back over a factory MotoGP bike will be an amazing personal achievement. The former Moto2 champ and MotoGP race winner was basically made redundant by MotoGP and saw his career hit the skids where he was basically willing to ride anything, anywhere. That’s how he ended up at Yoshimura Suzuki where he has seen a career resurgence.
Weird detail: the last time Elias rode a MotoGP bike (LCR Honda) his guest teammate at Laguna Seca was … his current teammate Roger Lee Hayden. Honda talked to Hayden about replacing Elias in MotoGP but the full-time ride never came to fruition.
