Like most things Ski, Dave was fortunate to win the Daytona 200.
In the opening laps of the race Ski tangled with several other riders and somehow caught a clutch lever from another motorcycle (WHY WERE YOU PARKED?!) in his leathers. The lever or clip-on punctured Ski’s leathers and tore the seam, exposing, in a very big cowskin window, which brand of underwear Ski wore on race day.
Seeing Ski’s leathers compromised, the AMA were moving to black flag (disqualify) Ski for unsafe equipment when Byron Hines had an idea which saved the victory. Between pit stops Byron constructed a large duct tape bandage, or flap which when applied to his leathers, made Ski whole again. The duct tape patch was huge.
